Our little side project, Dolls for Friends, had the wonderful opportunity to have work featured in December’s issue of Portland Monthly magazine. There are some words about the feature on the DFF weblog.
Because we had experience in both print and web design, and because we truly loved working in both mediums, we decided that we shouldn't be completely exclusive in any one particular area.

Crafty, What?
December 24th, 2009Scratch the Surface
September 24th, 2009We’ve got our books, our pencils, our paper and our pocket protectors, and we’re heading back to school. CSS3 school that is. Yes, we’ve been doing a lot of reading and studying about some of the new, exciting features that are around the somewhat distant corner for our profession.
With the W3c’s formal adoption of html 5 and the CSS3 buzz building every week, things are looking bright. But with the flurry of information out there it can be hard to find the latest and greatest on these new technologies. So, in order to help out a bit we’ve assembled a short list of articles and sites that have been instrumental in helping us get our feet under us. These resources can act as a sort of early primer for the designer to assist in scratching the surface in what might be one of the most fundamental changes to the web in the last 10 years.

Resources will change every week, changes will be made faster than we can absorb them, and we will, at times, surely feel out of date and out of place with these vast, changing resources. But, that’s the thrill right? Watching the your world change right before your eyes and knowing that you have the opportunity to change right along with it.
Migratory Patterns
August 17th, 2009After quite a bit of deliberation, we decided to take a step away from Tumblr and to employ Wordpress as our primary weblog for the studio. We truly loved our time with Tumblr, but honestly, we realized that we had outgrown it and for various reasons, we needed a publishing platform with a bit more power and options.
Perhaps the main impetus for getting us to make the switch was for the Search Engine Optimization benefits. We have been concentrating heavily on improving our organic search results as a company, and we realized what we were missing by having to push our readers to an external site to read our posts was having, in our opinion, a negative effect on those results.
As of today, we are officially moved over to Wordpress and all of our content has been migrated. We have kicked the tires and bit the nickels and we’re happy with our new little e-Smith Corona.
