After quite a bit of deliberation, we decided to take a step away from Tumblr and to employ Wordpress as our primary weblog for the studio. We truly loved our time with Tumblr, but honestly, we realized that we had outgrown it and for various reasons, we needed a publishing platform with a bit more power and options.
Perhaps the main impetus for getting us to make the switch was for the Search Engine Optimization benefits. We have been concentrating heavily on improving our organic search results as a company, and we realized what we were missing by having to push our readers to an external site to read our posts was having, in our opinion, a negative effect on those results.
As of today, we are officially moved over to Wordpress and all of our content has been migrated. We have kicked the tires and bit the nickels and we’re happy with our new little e-Smith Corona.

I just finished reading Smashing Magazine’s new article about corporate blogging. There is a lot of good information there on making your company’s weblog a real asset-not just a marketing tool, but a voice. Gone are the days of inpersonal, corporate speak. Consumers and clients want to hear the “individual/personal” voice of the company. By presenting the company as an individual that talks with a customer/client on a one-on-one basis, rather than talking down to them from the 10,000 foot view, we can create lasting working relationships-a feature that is becomming more and more essential during these times.

eljl is proud to present version 2 of its website. This is our studio’s second incarnation in the four years we’ve been located in the Pacific Northwest. While our old site served it’s purpose as an informational tool, it lived on a bit too long without a refresh-a happenstance of our extremely busy project schedule (although, we are not complaining.)
Our new site features many of the features that we loved in our first version, but incorporates many new features (particularly under the hood) that we have been using in some of our recent work.
At this point our content remains much the same as it was in the previous incarnation, but as with all our personal projects it’s the starting point-not the destination. So, you can be sure that things will be changing over the life of this version.
So, it’s a new year and a new face. Well… not such a new year anymore, but it’s a new face to be sure.
